ELBOW ASSEMBLY PURGING AND CHARGING
APPLICABLE CONFIGURATIONS: M36E1
TOOLS: #1 cross tip screwdriver ( Phillips type)
3/8" open end wrench
Fire control purging kit

REFERENCES: JPG 4lC for purging and charging
EQUIPMENT CONDITION: Elbow assembly on work bench
PRELIMINARY PROCEDURES: Do purging and charging setup (JPG)
Procedure
Turn valve (1) fully counterclockwise.
Turn tank valve (2) counterclockwise until reading on high pressure gage (3) is greater than
100 psi (JPG).
Using screwdriver, remove screw (4) from elbow assembly (5).
Using wrench, remove cap (6) of purge valve (7).
Connect free end of hose assembly (8) to purge valve (7) of elbow assembly (5).
Turn valve (1) slowly clockwise until reading on low pressure gage (9) is 5 psi.
Wait 5 minutes. Turn valve (1) slowly counterclockwise until reading on low pressure gage
(9) is 1 psi.
Using screwdriver, install screw (4) into elbow assembly (5).
Check elbow assembly (5) for leaks (JPG). If leaks are found, fault isolate leak (Vol I,
Wait two minutes. Turn tank valve (2) fully clockwise.
Turn valve (1) fully counterclockwise.
Remove hose assembly (8) from purge valve (7).
Check valve core (10) for leaks (JPG). If valve core (10) leaks, repair valve (para 7-17) and
repeat purge and charge.
Using wrench, replace cap (6) to purge valve (7).
